Major venting

I'm FED UP and FRUSTRATED!! Does it not seem to anyone else that every time you turn around there are some different "scientifically based" facts about what you should and shouldn't eat? I can't take it anymore!!! Avoid fat. Eat fat. Eat only good fats. Eggs are bad. Eggs are good. Egg whites are okay. Eat the whole egg. Go low carb. Eat whole grains. Avoid all grains. Eat only grains. Don't eat beef. Eat lean beef. Eat grass-fed beef. Eat lots of soy. Soy is of the devil. Stay away from artificial sweeteners. Don't use sugar. Only use raw sugar. Eat local honey. Don't use any honey or agave nectar. Eat multiple small meals a day. Eating multiple small meals a day is "so last season." Supplement with protein bars and shakes. Avoid processed foods. Drink milk. Avoid dairy. Juice, juice, juice. NO JUICE!! Eat the whole fruit. Don't eat fruit. Eat only certain fruits. Try a baked potato. Don't eat white potatoes. Stay under 1500 calories a day. DON'T COUNT CALORIES!!!

When will the madness stop?!

My CrossFit nutrition challenge started today. I feel like I am a very healthy eater. Only according to the challenge guidelines I am doing everything completely wrong. Heaven forbid I eat a small serving of homemade Greek yogurt sweetened with local honey, blueberries and almonds every day. And, HORROR of HORRORS, I also make my own whole wheat bread and eat that too!!!

I don't know what to think anymore. I am certainly not an expert. But I'm starting to think that there AREN'T ANY EXPERTS out there!!!

Lindsay, you eat healthier than any person I know or have ever known. Seriously. I think you need to do what you KNOW works for you, and not what someone else says is right (or is selling!). Go to CrossFit if you like it, do the exercises, and ignore the nutrition challenge. I think stuff like that is usually designed for people who are starting from a very different nutrition standpoint than you are anyway.

Life is too short to worry about whether or not every single bite we put in our mouths (or feed to our kids) is going to kill us or make us fat. Because in the end, we all die someday, and I'd really rather enjoy the food I eat in the meantime. Because honestly, if I die in a car crash tomorrow, will it really matter that I ate a chocolate cupcake today? There are plenty of other things for me to spend time worrying about.

(And PS--I feel like a whole lot of my life consists of doing things that I don't really want to because they're "good for me". I'd prefer that food, which I consider to be one of life's great pleasures, not fall into that category as well.)

I left another comment after this one, but I typed it all on my phone and it must have disappeared! But what I said echoed just what you said in today's post: that you do an amazing job of feeding you and your family healthy foods, and I hate to see some silly nutrition plan make you doubt that! What makes CrossFit any more correct than South Beach, or Paleo, or Atkins, or Weight Watchers, or Body for Life, or any of the hundreds of diet plans out there? You are better off doing what you KNOW works for you and your family, what makes you feel good, rather than worrying about every so-called 'expert' that says something new. You do a great job and deserve to have confidence that you're doing your best!
