We take holidays seriously at our house.
We have pizza for dinner at least once every couple weeks. It's quick and easy and can be just as healthy as you want it to be. So, this has nothing to do with Independence Day, but we did have leftover homemade pizza tonight for dinner as we watched the rain pour down outside! :(
The crust--I got distracted by the doorbell while I was making this, so it looks a little dry (I added too much flour.) It still tasted fine. I use this recipe for the crust. Super easy. I'm thinking of adding chia seeds next time. I've been doing some research--they are even better for you than flaxseed and keep you full!
Hmm...can you guess which side is for us and which is for the kids? Ours had turkey pepperoni, red onions and lots of fresh tomatoes. Yummy! Theirs had sauce...and cheese eventually. Notice the sauce is a strange color--that would be the green puree I added.
So the sauce is just a can of tomato sauce, 2 crushed garlic cloves, some Italian seasoning and the green puree (1/2 cup.) See? Very easy.
And the finished product:
Complete with reduced fat Mozzarella. Tasty stuff.

genius!
I make a similar pizza, but i also add carrot and butternutsquash to the pizza sause. It really reduces the acid in it(I discovered that while pregnant) and tastes fabulous.
